zero waste living

Now, I’m sure I will never be able to live completely waste free, but anything you can do to reduce your total waste is a step in the right direction. I was given these products to try out. You might remember reading my ‘going cruelty free‘ makeup blog post a little while ago, where I replaced all my makeup with cruelty free brands. I think the natural progression from that, is to make my after-makeup routine as kind and eco friendly as the makeup itself. All the items I mention are from The Zero Waste Shack.

I used to use single-use makeup wipes or cotton wool pads to remove my makeup in the evening, simply because of the convenience of them. But did you know, wet wipes make up 90% of the material blocking sewers? And even though I didn’t flush mine down the toilet, they still end up in a landfill when you’re done with them. By using face scrubbies, you can use them again and again by putting them in the washing machine. They are handmade from 100% cotton yarn by The Zero Waste Shack.

These super cute colourful flannels are perfect for washing your face after taking your makeup off.

This one isn’t to do with my makeup routine, but one of the most important changes I have made to my lifestyle. This is the Huski Rice Husk Travel Cup. Take this into any coffee shop and get your drink made into this instead of using a single-use takeaway cup. Most coffee shops also give you a little discount for doing this! It’s such a simple way to reduce your waste which we all should be doing.
I’ve linked an interesting article that talks about single-use coffee cups in much more detail, here.

Soap savers allow you to hold the soap while you use it! Never again will I drop big bars of soap on my toes! It makes the soap sud up and gently exfoliates your skin. You can also hang up the soap when you’ve finished to dry. It also means you no longer need to buy shower gels in plastic bottles.

These cleaning cloths are made of strong twine so can be used for cleaning your kitchen or bathroom. As with everything else, they’re machine washable so you can use them again and again.
