I used to do a monthly roundup of my favourite films and tv shows, but unfortunately, sometimes it’s hard to fit in as many as I’d like. However, I currently have an ever-growing list of great television in my notes. So, naturally, I thought I’d share some of my current favourites!
Not to get all feminist and that, but I’m about to do exactly that. This show has TWO female leads. They are both; smart, strong and funny characters. How often do you see that in tv? Literally never. Not to mention it’s about an MI5 agent trying to catch a psychopath assassin. I’m a sucker for a psychopathic character. No? Just me?
The characters are so, so good. Especially Villanelle who is played by Jodie Comer. She somehow makes a psychopathic assassin lovable and hilarious (oh man, she made me laugh so much), but also completely terrifying and unpredictable. Is there anything she can’t do?
But anyway, definitely worth a watch if you’re into psychopath assassins, like me, apparently.
It’s a kind of twisted love story, romance, thriller, crime with a sprinkle of comedy. Basically, just all the genres. The whole show is from the perspective of Joe Goldberg – a seemingly very nice bookstore manager. He uses the internet (and his very clever brain) to make his dream girl fall in love with him. However, he doesn’t quite know the difference between romance and obsession. I love how the whole show is narrated from his point of view, so we get to see how he rationalises every (often very questionable) decision he makes.
I accidentally watched all 11 episodes in two days. It’s a very binge-able show – I couldn’t help it! Hmm, another slightly psychopathic character.
The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina
I remember watching episodes of Sabrina the Teenage Witch when I was younger, so I was very excited when I heard it was going to be remade! And what a good job they did! I love how dark they’ve made it and I really enjoyed the more gruesome and scary plot.
My only criticisms are that I miss is Salem’s sarcastic comments, and they literally cast about 1 spell during the whole show even though pretty much everyone is a Witch or a Warlock. But still. Great show.
I hope I’ve maybe persuaded you to watch one of these shows, and not merely that I’m slightly obsessed with psychopath characters. It seems I’ve definitely gone down a thriller and crime series rabbit hole recently, but there’s so much great tv in that genre nowadays, so what choice did I have?
