I have been wanting to write this post for a while, but it has taken me such a long time to narrow down this list to only 10 feel good films. These films are in not in any particular order as I really don’t think I could rank them. Obviously, these aren’t Oscar winning pieces of art, but they make me happy. And, as I am constantly watching new films, these are some top choices at the moment. They’re all just a lot of fun. I have a page here where I document the films I have enjoyed recently.
Legally Blonde:- This is one of those films that I could honestly watch over and over and never get bored. I have genuinely watched it about 6 times. It may or may not have been the reason I took law at A Level. If it is on ever TV or I have some time to kill, I will find a way to watch it. I did watch Legally Blonde 2 the other day, but I had to turn it off three quarters of the way through as it was horrific.
Little Shop of Horrors:- Another film I could watch on repeat. I’m not ashamed to admit that I know ALL the words to ALL the songs. I went to see it live a little while ago and was mouthing along the whole time.
Napoleon Dynamite:- A very odd film but hilarious none the less. My mum and I are in tears from laughing so much every time we watch it. I have also mastered the art of the Napoleon run and head swish (which I am very proud of).
My Neighbour Totoro:- I wanted to just choose one Studio Ghibli film, although I love them all, Totoro is my favourite. The art is beautiful, as is the music. My friend bought me a cat bus t-shirt for my birthday which I LOVE.
Clueless:- Like Legally Blonde, another guilty pleasure. Clueless is just such a feel good film.
Guardians of the Galaxy:- I also HAD to include a Marvel film (as I love them so much). Guardians of the Galaxy is definitely one of my favourites. It had a nice amount of humour and space-y-ness (yes, that is a word). I also went to the very first screening of Guardians of the Galaxy 2 where the showed the first movie, and at midnight (when the second was released), they screened the new one. We got home at 3am but it was totally worth it. I never have much faith in a sequel, but this one was great. Also, a fantastic soundtrack which makes a film for me.
Better Off Dead:- My dad introduced me to this one. I love it for it’s total randomness.
The Princess Bride:- I watched this again the other day as I forgot how much I loved it. Great humour (as you can see, that is what I look for in a film), “fencing, fighting, torture, revenge, giants, monsters, chases, escapes, true love, miracles.” What more could you want?
Tangled:- What top 10 feel good movies list would be complete without a Disney film?! My favourite is Tangled (very, very closely followed by Beauty and the Beast).
La La Land:- Finally, La La Land. Such a beautiful film. I actually did a study of the cinematographer for a photography project as I loved it so much. The songs are amazing (I know all of the words to all of them too) and the acting and everything is just great. Also, I went to see it in the cinema twice. Within a week. That’s how you know you love a film.
